It would sure look nice parked next to my non-existent new blue flame Corolla XSE.

Kinja'd!!!

It would be basically be a fleet of Corolla hatchbacks, with fun colors!

Of course, both the UX250h and F-sport *start* at over $34,000. The manual ‘Rolla XSE can be found anywhere between $21.5k to $24k. So that’s $60k for two new cars.

Yeah, that’s nearly three times as much as all the vehicles I’ve bought in my life combined. Fun to daydream about a mythical fleet, though.

I’ll be back to digging quarters out if my ash tray now.

I sit here and wonder about my hypothetical F150, Safrane Biturbo, and Macan in the driveway.

Then I remember I can barely afford the models of each.

But goals are good to have. And hey, if you spend $60,000 and don’t buy another car for ten years, that’s alright.

You could also hope you can find a used one in the specs you want.

At times like these I'm happy to be single.

$60,000 is less than $469 times 2^7.

$469 > $1,876 > $3,752 > $7,504 > $15,008 > $30,016 > $60,032

Sooo, you only need $7,500 to be mathematically halfway to $60,000.

At least you daydream about smart vehicle choices. Meanwhile  https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/d/bolingbrook-is-e30/6966257825.html

Ehhhhh ... You'd be surprised. I love my wife, and I love being married, but free to spend my money as I see fit I am not.

Fair. I’m thinking more in terms of house-buying power. One entry-level professional isn’t going to get anything in Seattle outside of an old run-down apartment , but two.... That opens up some (much fancier) d oors

She’s not asking for it new , she knows the life we lead.

“Think we can afford it in five years?"

DINK has been very good to us. I don't make terrible money, but there was no way I could have afforded our first home without it at the time.

Definitely for housing costs , but it can literally become “duel” for many other things related to expenses , ask how I know. But for others, I am sure it works well.

And for many couples I know , it becomes a case of she drives what she wants, he drives what she wants.

Depending on the depreciation curve, it still may be better to buy new and enjoy more. But it sounds like you have one as frugal as you, a keeper :)

I also can’t find a single positive aesthetic quality to the UX, which set me off on a negative tone.

I work with a lady that has a silver one - I know the look is polarizing, but I kinda like it, (lots better than the spindle grill sedans.)  It is quite a bit smaller than I thought it would be, Juke sized.  It’s kind of a Lexus Juke.

I’m just happy I finally found something she liked more than a new RX. Because I REALLY don’t to want to have to buy an  RX someday. They are monstrous.

RX is like a designer handbag on wheels, selling to the same demographic who goes nutty over designer handbags, and I don’t mean that in a good way. Very Bellevue, and kind of a funny thing as I’ve always mildly liked the first gen. But if she can swing the payments, let her do it : )

I was going to suggest NX, but it is no better, and in base trim the gussied up RAV4 look is quite loud.   Maybe a nice used LX.

You know what I’m ashamed to admit has grown on me? The new Acura crossovers. They’ve got an amazing blue paint job, that looks stellar with the red leather interior.....
